Hi, I’m Nika, I live in Klenovnik and now I’ m going to tell you why I love this village. My favourite season is summer because I get to spend so much time outside. I also love eating refreshing fruit which grows in our garden while I relax with my family and animals. My favourite thing to do in the summer is taking walks with my best friends – these people who I can trust and tell anything, and who makes my life complete. We usually buy sweets in the store and we go for long walks in the nature. We even have our routine, we go through a little road in the woods and then through another village. I live for moments like that.
As you may or may not know, Klenovnik is famous by the biggest castle in Croatia. I never visit it because it was turn into a hospital a long time ago. But my friends and I often visit the park around the castle, which is so beautiful. Our favourite thing to do there is to visit an abounded pool and to have some photo sessions there.
My friends are not the only ones I get to go to walks with, my family and I always go through the forests. Nothing can be compared to those gorgeous colours, smells and sounds that surround us there. We don’t need a zoo or picture books. We can meet amazing animals or plants on every step we make. Most of the times there are mice and deer, but sometimes we even see a snake.
Since 2 out of my 3 best friends have a birthday in summer, I often spend time at their houses. My best friend lives in a place near Klenovnik, even though I think it’s still a part of Klenovnik. She has a lot of chickens, pigs, pigeons and she even has a small lake full of fish close to her house. When we were still kids we used to catch chickens and gave them a makeover, we put nail polish on their claws. Even though it sounds like we were torturing them, I think they had fun. At least we did. As I mentioned earlier, she also has pigeons, and in fact, I once had one, even though it lived at her place. It was white and had some brown stamps on. I remember my favourite thing about it was that it always landed on my shoulder. One time, when I was at her house, we went to visit the lake. We were fishing, and since we didn’t catch any fish, her mum brought us sausages and we baked them on the fire. Once we went to the other side of the woods which is near her lake, and we came out to a place full of some big lakes. We got lost and it took us some time to get back home. I also said she has pigs, well she once didn’t tell me when there was a day when you kill pigs at her house, on Croatian we call it kolinje. When we came there, a pig’s head was hanging from a tree; it was the creepiest thing I ever saw. Her village, which is a part of Klenovnik, has 2 parts, we often visit the 2nd one because our classmates live there. We often invite boys and they play football and we play truth or dare. I met so many great and fun people there. My 2nd best friend lives close to my house. She has a store right next to her house, it’s her uncle’s. I love to go to her place because I get to buy lots of snack. I remember when we once bought too much ice cream and our heads and stomachs hurt. My classmates and I often get together on the playground, we have fun and even we, girls, play football.
Although my place is not really developed and even though it’s not a city, it has qualities for great living. Klenovnik’s nature is breath taking, but people in it are the ones making it so special.
So, in the end I can honestly say Klenovnik is my personal little piece of heaven.
