The future of Croatia is tourism, only tourism. In the future the only jobs will be in hotels, bars, restaurants and security. The population inland will be reduced since everyone will have moved to other countries or to the coast. The government won’t change much, the politicians will continue fighting among themselves and won’t even realise what’s happening.
This is something my dad once said jokingly, “Let the people who want to emigrate go where they want to go to find a better life and leave all the waiters here because that’s all we need”. I don’t think that that’s completely impossible, but it’s highly unlikely. If something like that were to happen it would solve a lot of problems if we ignore the fact that Croatia would barely be a country and the Croatian culture and customs would be nearly erased and the majority of the population won’t be ethnic Croatian anymore. The economy would be completely based on tourism; the food would all be imported and sold for outrageous prices to rich tourists who don’t know better, in fact everything would be really expensive because most of the people would be very rich and willing to pay because most of the people would be tourists. Our government wouldn’t do much, so that would be an improvement I guess. The army would be non-existent because we wouldn’t really need it since no one would want to attack us because there is no point; we already sold what little resources we had so attacking us would just be a waste of money with no gain, and the few locals that are left would be very annoying to deal with. The security would become mostly private, employed by the hotels and bars, and the police would be significantly reduced since the private security would be payed a lot more by their rich employers, but most of the crimes would be committed by foreign tourists anyway. We would also have no industry so that would mean less greenhouse gasses, but we would lose a lot of forests because of new hotels being built. Maritime tourism would still be the most popular form of tourism because the majority of tourists are older people just wanting to relax, that is, if we don’t count the Asian invasion which can be seen near every landmark and tourist attraction which will become even larger as Croatian tourism becomes more and more attractive. Thanks to all the tourist attention more people would also be able to find Croatia on the map and maybe they won’t just call it Yugoslavia.
It of course isn’t this simple to just completely rely on tourism or a good idea at all in the first place. It might seem like a bleak future for the Croatian people that are going extinct and leaving the country, but I wouldn’t worry too much about that I would worry more about the possibility of all of humanity going extinct thanks to us draining Earth of every possible resource and leaving the future generations with a barren planet, but I guess we should keep thinking about how to keep the young people from leaving the country they were born in.
